Hey Welcome!
We here at Cahoon are proud of our drummers. Our parents, students, teachers, and business partners look forward to hearing them perform each year. In order to keep this program here at Cahoon we need your help.
Who are we?
Cahoon Elementary Magnet School of Animal Science is located in Hillsborough County Florida. We are a school that values teaching and learning excellence. Our mission is to provide students with meaningful and challenging experiences that spark students’ interest and will foster the desire to learn for a life-time.
What is our Campaign?
Our drumming program ignites our students to welcome the challenge that comes with a commitment to learning and mastering a skill. The Drum Line is a program that began 4 years ago and has been maintained through local donations, renting drums annually. We have seen the success, opportunity and pure joy it has brought our Cahoon Cougars thus bringing us to a time that we want to solidify our commitment to our students by purchasing our own set of drums.
Cahoon’s Drum Line has not only become a point of pride but also a conduit for valuable life lessons. Our students audition at the beginning of the school year and then must maintain the rehearsal schedule that occurs before school on a weekly basis. Often times our students must take responsibility for his/her own learning by making arrangements with their families to get them to school early each morning. Ms. Driggers, our Music Teacher, has had many challenging conversations asking the students to make the sacrifices needed for them to continue their involvement with drumming.
As one of our parents explains, once they are committed we can not get them to stop, “They are drumming on everything…the counters, the dressers, the backseat.” We have all experienced something that makes you come to life and for many of our Cahoon Cougars, the drum line is it!
How You Can Help
Cahoon needs to raise $4000. These funds will be used to purchase six to ten drumming sets and the drum sticks. Any remaining funds will be placed in an account to help maintain these drums for the next three years.
Our drum line has had the opportunity to perform for our Cahoon families at our school site and in unique venues like Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo, Hillsborough County Magnet School Programs and Marketing Events, and the Gates Foundation. These experiences have grown our students into young men and women who are confident enough to share their experiences. They understand the value of practice and the commitment they share with the rest of the group.
We believe in this program so any funding we receive will be used to purchase as many drums as possible and/or rent the drums needed annually.
Other Ways You Can Help
We know that not everyone can contribute monetarily, but you can still be an integral part of our campaign. By telling people about our cause be it through word of mouth, Facebook, twitter or any other means, you will keep our drum line rolling.
